Quarterdeck on Gull Lake Wedding

From the rainy ceremony to the beautiful boat house reception everything about Alyssa and Dan’s September wedding at the Quarterdeck on Gull Lake was absolutely lovely. Their adorable french bulldogs, June and Cash, served as maid of honor and best man. The stunning dahlia bouquets were arranged by Bloom Designs. Dani from Sweet Life Bakery exceeded all expectations once again. Alyssa and Dan’s triple layer wedding cake with the watercolor frosting effect and gold flecks looked like a piece of art. It literally had guests stopping in their tracks and wondering if it was real. The night just kept getting better and better. Mini donut bar from Prairie Bay. Sparkler exit. Epic dance party.

Greysolon Wedding in Duluth

Brittany & Ben’s romantic wedding at the Greysolon Plaza in Duluth, Minnesota. They envisioned an October wedding on the north shore full of those classic fall colors. What they received instead was a snowstorm that created a snowy, winter wonderland, and it was absolutely lovely.

Brainerd Minnesota Barn Wedding

Ashley and Mitch’s intimate farm wedding in Brainerd, Minnesota.

My sweet friends were married this past September and I was lucky to have been able to document it.
This backyard barn wedding was the very best kind. It was simple and wholesome and 100% DIY. It was exactly how Ashley described to me how she envisioned her wedding day, years ago. There was no over the top production. Just close family and friends celebrating Mitch & Ashley’s love with good food and great beer.

Portrait Session in the Woods

“She has been feeling it for awhile now— that sense of awakening. There is a gentle rage simmering inside her, and it is getting stronger by the day. She will hold it close to her—she will nurture it and let it grow. She won’t let anyone take it away from her. It is her rocket fuel and finally, she is going places. She can feel it down to her very core—this is her time. She will not only climb mountains—she will move them too.”  — Lang Leav

Whitney carries herself with gentle grace and self-assurance—she’s so much cooler and more sophisticated than I ever was in high school. Hell, she has more composure than I do now at the ripe age of 28. It’s easy for me to forget she’s still in high school. Here’s a small preview of her high school senior portrait session in the north woods.

Duluth, Minnesota Engagement

Every time I travel to Duluth I’m in awe. The mysterious lake Superior. The picturesque back drop of mountainous towering pines. The fog. Each trip up the north shore feels as though I’m experiencing it for the first time. It empowers me with a burst of inspiration and settles my wanderlust heart.

When Haley contacted me for engagement photos in Duluth I was ecstatic, to say the least. We started the evening with beers at Canal Park Brewery, and wandered the rocky lake Superior shoreline in Canal Park with dreamy golden sunlight beaming on our faces. We then made our way to the sand dune beach of Park Point just in time for the pink hued twilight and ended the session with the night fading into dusk. It truly was a perfect Minnesota summer night.

Haley and Levi, I’m incredibly grateful for you trusting in me to document these special memories and moments. Looking forward to creating more imagery of your sweet love next August at your Larson Barn wedding.

Senior Session

High school senior portrait session with Anna at sunset.

It's no doubt this girl is stunning. But Anna has so much more, depth and intelligence and a hint of mystery behind her demure personality...than what a pretty picture can show. She is an artist. Winning two different awards for her drawings at school. Her long term plan is to become a nurse anesthetist. The world is yours, Anna. Full of boundless and infinite possibilities. I know you'll make the most of it.

"They keep saying beautiful is something a girl needs to be. But honestly? Forget that.

Don't be beautiful.

Be angry, be intelligent, be witty, be klutzy, be interesting, be funny, be adventurous, be crazy be talented- there are an eternity of other things be other than beautiful.

And what is beautiful anyway but a set of letters strung together to make a word? Be your own definition of amazing, always. That is so much more important that anything beautiful, ever."

Northland Arboretum Engagement

Martha & Peder. These two hold a special place in my heart. We met last March over coffee prior to venturing out into the crisp Minnesota spring air for their engagement session at the Northland Arboretum. I immediately fell in love with their calming nature. I feel at peace while documenting these two. Which is somewhat ironic as I would be lying if I said wasn’t nervous when Martha mentioned their pitpull, Raiden, would be joining during their engagement photos. I now fully pledge against any bias towards pitbulls and I may have been slightly sad Raiden wasn’t able to join us at their wedding. Martha and Peder, you have an insurmountable love and I’m forever honored to have documented it.

Vineyard Wedding at Grand View Lodge

Lauren & Trey are just the sweetest and it was undoubtedly apparent when family and friends flew in to Minnesota from all over the country (and world, Trey's mother lives in Japan) to celebrate in their northern MN gull lake wedding. I was eagerly awaiting their Grand View lodge wedding after meeting Lauren & Trey for their engagement session last March. There was drizzly rain & crazy wind on their September wedding day and then the sun came out in the middle of their ceremony creating this beautiful soft light as they said their wedding vows.

Thank you Lauren and Trey for your trust and giving me the privilege to capture your wedding story.

And another big thanks to my right hand woman, Addie, for assisting and helping me shoot this incredible day.
